Are Fall Weddings the New June?

Know someone who’s getting married this fall? Chances are good the answer is “yes.”

According to wedding planners and venue operators, fall is nipping at June as the most popular time of year to tie the knot.

The upswing in fall weddings seems to be concentrated in the Southern states where stifling heat and high humidity are factors in setting that all-important date, especially for outdoor events.

In addition to the change of season, the average bride and groom of today reflect the cultural changes in our society. According to a survey by Wayfair Registry of 1,500 couples who married in the last 12 months: 80 percent lived together before marriage and 40 percent purchased home items together before marriage.

Many couples tying the knot today are doing it for the second, third or even fourth time, leaving guests to wonder about the proper gifts. My brother is one of those statistics; he is getting married for the second time, as is his bride to be. They already have two households to blend, but many of their linens and kitchenwares need to updating or replacing.

If you’re thinking of registering for gifts for a second or more marriage, keep these things in mind.

1、Choose a variety of gifts in a wide price range, so guests can find something in their price range.
2、Select options for the groom’s friends and family to buy that he would enjoy.
3、Use at least one online registry out-of-town guests or those who are unable to attend can still send a gift.

If you receive an invitation, keep these things in mind when you select a gift:

1、No matter how tempting it may be, refrain from buying any “home decor” items not on the couple’s list. Your tastes may not be the same as the bride and groom.

2、Please refrain from re-gifting, even a high-end item, unless it is exactly what the couple has on their registry.
Times may have changed in the last 50 years, but some things remain the same. Couples enjoy sharing their special day and appreciate receiving gifts they have chosen. No one wants Aunt Myrtle’s hand-me-down barrel table, unless it is something they have requested.
